Greetings!
As most of you know, we have a furry child named Sula. Sula is a year-old labrador/golden retriever mix, who is quite affectionate and emotional - and this change in our family dynamic has her testing her coping skills. Sula's main goal for the day, every day, is to be talked to by everyone in her universe. And if she is lucky, she can sneak a lick (yes, she's licker, and despite all of our efforts to rid her of this horrendous habit, she continues). If this does not happen, she has her own set of paybacks.
As you might have guessed, this new people puppy has become Sula's most recent obsession. The situation has been made extra-difficult by the fact that Lucy is terrified of dogs, cats, ants - anything that walks on 4 or more legs. So instead of getting the extra attention that a dog might expect from an extra person in the house, Sula spends a bit more time in her kennel. During Lucy's naptime, however, Sula, in her quest to befriend and lick this newcomer, tiptoes (yes, tiptoes - I promise. I have witnesses.) up the stairs, sneaks into Lucy's room, gets very low to the ground, and approaches the crib - tongue poised and ready. Then with all the speed and silence she can muster, Sula puts her snout in between the slats on the crib, and tries desperately to extend her tongue long enough to bestow some doggie affection onto this baby. Ah, but to no avail. Sula's quest continues......and the paybacks begin.
Lucy has 1 1/2 pair of shoes. Louis now has 1/2 of a pair of Crocs. Ed no longer has his bicycle safety light (Sula had the sense to spit out the batteries like cherry pits, though). Lucy's Little Kim doll, and her Chinese puppet doll are covered in slobber. I can't find any of the boys' socks.
The upside to all of this is that Lucy is getting more and more comfortable with her furry friend, and each day they come to some sort of understanding, based on Lucy's pointing at Sula and shaking her head. No licks, though.
Say a little prayer for Lucy!

Yep, our 94 pound boxer mix, Diva, is a licker too. When JM first came home she did NOT want to be licked, but Diva persevered. She now will allow Diva to lick her and has been seen giving Diva a kiss back! She has to be in the mood though, just like all us girls. I love the pic or Lucy with the ice cream on her face. What joy! We'll be praying about the doggie relationship. Being dog lovers ourselves we know how important that is.
