I am a Mother of Three
Greetings!
Does one EVER get over jetlag? I know I am making progress in this department because I can drive a car without feeling like I am in flight, but for crying out loud, I would like to at least have the comfort of knowing that I will not unpredicably fall asleep - while sitting, while standing, while on the phone in deep conversation....
And when naptime for Lucy arrives, I have yet to be able to join her in a short restorative snooze, as one or both of my boy children usually come up with some dire emergency to attend to - like ants; missing sidewalk chalk; or the need for parental interference to decide who will be Indiana Jones in a nerf gun fight; or inadequate snack choices, etc. And have you noticed that 6 and 8 year-old boys have no clue how to whisper - it's more like breathy yelling, so it's a wonder that Lucy ever sleeps.
So today, Friday, I decided that the 4 of us (Mom and 3 kids) would venture out into the big, bad world of Asian Markets in Memphis. You may say, "Asian markets in Memphis? How odd!" Not so, my friends - there are more than a body might think, and man, are they in odd places. The reason for this little adventure was to find those little round snacky things (the boys say they taste like marshmallow cookies) that you can find everywhere in China, but nowhere in the states. Our first stop did not yield the cookies, but it did produce some questioning looks and utter confusion when I tried desperately to describe the round cookie things. This first stop also reinforced our theory that taking the boys to China might have been a bit much - as they immediately held their noses; were thoroughly grossed out by the live fish, crawfish, crabs and other seafood (sorry, no frogs folks) on display; and could not wait to leave. The second stop did yield the cookies, and both boys controlled the gasping and nose-holding. We were also looking for the oval-shaped rice cookies that the kids liked to gnaw on. No luck.
Lucy is doing great. She is becoming more and more social every day, and will even go to women! Though Ba Ba is still her favorite, with Ed at work all week, Lucy has decided that I am not so bad after all, and in fact, actually cried when I had to leave her with Ed on Saturday for a funeral. Progress! AND, she is making progress with Sula(the dog)! More on that later.
