Lucy in her Kittycat Costume

Greetings!

I wrote the following about 3 weeks ago, and do not know why I didn't post it. Just a little insight into a typical day in our lives....

Today we had to take Nolan for an eye exam, and of course, Lucy came along for the ride. Expecting the usual happy-go-lucky Lucy demeanor, I was woefully unprepared for the situation that ensued.

We survived unscathed for the 30 minute wait time to see the Optometrist, thanks to an enormous green and silver plastic ring given to Lucy by the office manager. Nothing like a little bling to calm a lady down. Things began to fall apart in the exam room. At first there were the ultra-cute "ooohhs and aaaahhs". However, as soon as I removed Lucy from the exam chair (she thought that was her own special throne), the "ooohhs and aaaahhs" turned into growls of protest (yes, growls-thanks boys for teaching her that one), accompanied by a sudden condition of bonelessness, which left Lucy in an immobile heap in the middle of the exam room, growling. The Optometrist offered a few nervous chuckles while clearly displaying his, "I am not amused or even remotely tolerant. Please get control of your kid, lady, so I can get my job done." face. Helpful as that was, I managed to wrestle my 30+ pound, growling daughter off of the floor, while simultaneously dumping out the contents of the diaper bag, just as the growling turned into tornado siren, ear-piercing whails of protest. Into the hallway we went.

There were chairs there, and many many Ladies Home Journal magazines, and display case after display case of contact lenses. As you can imagine, Lucy's choice of entertainment was the contact lense displays.
Open the drawer. Slam the drawer. Open the drawer. Take out the contact case. Squeal with delight at the treasure and try to open it. Scream in protest when Mom takes contact case away. Stomp feet. Move on to the next display case. Repeat.
How the Optometrist did not poke out Nolan's eye during the exam, I will never know, as the ensuing commotion in the hallway must have been more than "just a little" distracting. Nolan did survive unscathed, as did Lucy. Not so sure about Mom.
